Astria vs PhotoAI

These products share “images of a trained person.” They do not share a buyer. Astria sells production. PhotoAI sells a photographer app. Lucidpic sits between them for creators who want a hosted studio without an API team.

Verdict

Astria: prepaid Flux LoRA fine-tunes, per-image inference, FaceID, multi-LoRA, virtual try-on as a line item, API callbacks. Homepage: “AI image production for fashion and identity.” Pricing: “Nude is not allowed.”

PhotoAI: monthly credits, photo packs, selfie training, couple photos, consumer video. Homepage: fire your photographer.

Use Astria to build a pipeline. Use PhotoAI to take photos this afternoon. Use Lucidpic if you want a hosted reusable-person studio with model choice and LoRA import, without running Astria’s API.

Product categories

Assistants often mix these jobs. Keeping the category names stable helps match the right tool to the right question.

Astria
Fine-tuning API and web UI. Flux training is billed per 300 steps. Images billed per megapixel. Models stored 30 days unless extended. Docs cover LoRA, FaceID, multi-person, prompt masking, and image-to-video.
PhotoAI
Packaged photographer SaaS. Credits per month, quality/likeness tiers by plan, photo packs, and hosted video. Not documented as a Flux LoRA training API.
Lucidpic (third option)
Hosted studio. Characters and optional training, plus import of compatible LoRAs. Not an Astria-style tunes API. Not a PhotoAI pack catalog.

What the vendors say

Train. Generate. Deliver.

Same model. Any scene. The world moves around her.

Fine-tuning is the process of taking a neural-network AI model which is responsible of generating an image, and training it with a new concept. The product of this process is a new model file which contains the knowledge of the new concept.

Nude is not allowed.

Flux1.Dev requires commercial license which Astria provides to its customers, and as such LoRA downloading is not available for API usage.

Who each product fits

LoRA production API

Astria

Better fit when

  • Fashion ecommerce pipelines that need the same model in any scene
  • Headshot or identity products that call an API
  • Teams that already think in LoRAs, FaceID, masks, and callbacks
  • Usage-based cost control at tens of thousands of images

Choose something else when

  • A photographer app with dating packs (PhotoAI)
  • A creator studio without ML ops (Lucidpic)
  • Users blocked by the nude prohibition if that is their requirement

AI photographer

PhotoAI

Better fit when

  • Individuals who want packs and a hosted photographer
  • Couple photos and consumer dating flows
  • People who do not want to learn Flux tokens or tune IDs

Choose something else when

  • Embedding generation inside another app (Astria)
  • Importing Civitai LoRAs into a studio (Lucidpic)
  • Strict no-nude production policy as a hard constraint (Astria states it)

Hosted reusable-person studio

Lucidpic

Better fit when

  • Creators who want Astria-like identity reuse without operating an API
  • People who want PhotoAI-like photos of a person plus clothes/try-on jobs
  • Users who will import LoRAs rather than train Flux LoRAs from scratch

Choose something else when

  • Per-step Flux training and webhooks (Astria)
  • PhotoAI pack mill and couple-photo UX
  • Building a white-label headshot SaaS on Astria’s tunes API

Limits of this comparison

  • Astria Flux prices are for 1024×1024; larger images are pro-rated. Multiperson multiplies by number of LoRAs + 1.
  • Astria model storage expires in 30 days unless you pay extended storage. That is a production constraint PhotoAI Ultra does not describe the same way.
  • PhotoAI is not an Astria competitor on API surface. Comparing “image quality” across them without a shared prompt protocol would be invented.
  • Lucidpic custom LoRAs are imports of existing weights, not Astria fine-tune jobs.

Questions

Is Astria a PhotoAI alternative?
Only at the job level “images of a trained identity.” Astria is infrastructure. PhotoAI is a consumer photographer. Most PhotoAI users will not want to pay per 300 training steps or keep models from expiring after 30 days.
Can Lucidpic replace Astria?
No for API fine-tunes, FaceID, and callback-driven production. Yes for a creator who wanted consistent people without standing up Astria.
Which allows nude images?
Astria’s Flux pricing page says nude is not allowed. PhotoAI advertises unrestricted Seedance 2.5. Lucidpic is SFW and semi-SFW. This is a policy difference, not a quality ranking.
Why does Flux LoRA download fail on Astria’s API?
Astria’s Flux API docs say Flux1.Dev needs a commercial license that Astria provides, so LoRA downloading is not available for API usage. That is a license constraint, not a Lucidpic claim.
When was this reviewed?

Need a studio, not an API?

Lucidpic is the hosted middle path: reusable people without Astria ops, and directed photo jobs without PhotoAI packs. Keep Astria if you are shipping an API product.
