AI Image Extender

Expand an image beyond its original frame with new, scene-aware background content.

Lucidpic uses AI outpainting to uncrop a photo or extend its canvas on the top, bottom, left, or right. Choose how much space to add on each side, then create a separate expanded image while keeping the source untouched.

How it works

A focused workflow, not another blank canvas.

Each tool asks only for the controls that matter to the job and saves a new result into the same media history.

  1. 01

    Choose or upload an image

Start with an image from your Lucidpic library or upload one you own or have permission to edit.

  2. 02

    Set the extension

Choose how many pixels to add above, below, left, or right of the existing frame.

  3. 03

    Generate and inspect

Create the outpainted version, then check edges, repeated details, text, faces, and the new background before use.

Image extension examples

These common workflows show what to extend and why. The added pixels are generated from the source context, so each result is unique.

Frequently asked questions

What is an AI image extender?

An AI image extender uses outpainting to generate new content beyond an image’s existing edges. It increases the canvas while using the original scene as context.

Is image extension the same as upscaling?

No. Upscaling increases resolution while keeping the same composition. Image extension adds newly generated content outside the original frame.

Is outpainting the same as cropping or generative fill?

No. Cropping removes part of an image. Outpainting adds canvas beyond its edges. Generative fill usually replaces or creates content inside a selected area, while Lucidpic’s extender is focused on the outer frame.

Can I uncrop an image or restore what was outside the original photo?

You can create a plausible wider scene, but AI cannot recover pixels that were never present in the file. The extended area is newly generated content, not a reconstruction of the original camera capture.

Can I extend the background to a specific aspect ratio?

Set the extension amounts on the sides that need more room, then use Crop, Resize & Export for an exact final aspect ratio or pixel size.

Does Lucidpic overwrite my original image?

No. Each extension creates a new linked media item and leaves the source image unchanged.

Who owns uploaded and extended images?

Only upload images you own or are authorized to use. Your uploads remain subject to Lucidpic’s privacy policy and terms, and you are responsible for having the rights and consent needed for the source and intended use.

How is this different from a general AI image editor?

This is a focused canvas-extension workflow. It does not replace the broad editing controls used to alter objects, faces, clothing, lighting, or selected regions inside an image.
